Arguably the sports bar to end all sports bars in The Bronx, this seasonal fixture was established in the 1970s by Stan Martucci (founder of Stan’s Sports World, a memorabilia store on the same block) and continues to be open on game days under the stewardship of Martucci’s son and two New York City firemen. The self-styled “home of the diehard Yankees fan” is always packed to capacity until about the second inning, so be prepared to throw some elbows in order to get to the large oval-shaped bar. Famous Yanks like Lou Gehrig and Reggie Jackson are caricatured on the blue walls. Does anyone notice? Most of these twentysomething male fans have their eyes glued to one of twelve televisions while they’re sloppily pouring from pitchers and noshing on hot dogs and nachos come seventh inning. — Leslie Hendrickson
