It all began on May 5, 1862, at the battle of Puebla where the Mexican Army surprisingly overtook French forces. Primarily celebrated in Puebla and the United States, the cuisine is more authentically Northern Mexican, traditionally marked by heavy comfort foods. Tonight, instead of crowding yourself in a local bar, come celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us at Ger-Nis. We’re shaking things up and sipping on fruit filled margaritas and other traditional beverages from this region, along with classic condiments like guacamole and fresh salsa and even throwing in Mexican chocolate for dessert! Learn about this holiday (it is not Mexican Independence Day) and its function today, and celebrate this year by learning how to make this traditional fare for many Cinco de Mayo’s to come!
Recipes: Mango Margaritas; Mango Agua Frescas; Classic Guacamole; Fresh Salsa; Whole Wheat Baked Cumin Chips; Shredded Chicken-Mole Tostadas; Dulce de Leche Mini-Cakes with Strawberry, Mexican Chocolate, & Jalape
