Bucks County Chapter – Embroiderers’ Guild Prepares for Exhibit
Members of the Exhibit Committee of the Bucks County Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. are busily putting the final touches on their plans for The Expressive Needle, their 15th biennial exhibit of fine needlework at the James-Lorah Memorial Home Auditorium in Doylestown. The exhibit will take place on Thursday April 28 through Saturday April 30, 2011 from 10 to 4 daily. Admission is $5.
The exhibit will include a large number of items of needlework stitched by local members, in numerous hand embroidery techniques. Many of the pieces displayed will represent a variety of educational benefits offered through membership in The Embroiderers’ Guild.
A special addition to this year’s exhibit will be a display of 10-12 ArtBras from A Way to Women’s Wellness, Inc., a non-profit organization, founded by Victoria Adams Brown in 2003. This display will feature beautifully embellished bras created by established fiber art designers. Each bra has its own story, sometimes funny, but many are touching and true stories of the artist’s struggles with their own breast cancer experiences. A Way to Women’s Wellness. Inc. supports women and their families through the breast cancer journey and the organization hopes to offer inspiration and encouragement through their unique works of art.
The local chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church, 321 West Butler Avenue (Route 202), New Britain, PA 18901. Meetings are held from 7 to 9 pm. Visitors are welcome and membership is open to all stitchers regardless of their current level of expertise. Learning opportunities are available, at various levels, in all forms of embroidery. In addition to monthly meeting programs, workshops, seminars on both a regional and national level and correspondence courses are offered. The chapter also participates in an active Community Outreach program. For more information, contact BucksEGA@verizon.net or Peggy Michener at 215-256-9935.
