In Bràs, a poor district of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Nursery of San Vito provides care for approximately 120 children. Funds are raised during the annual Festa di San Vito, when an association founded by early 20th c. Italian immigrants from Polignano a Mare sells Pugliese food to over 80,000 customers. The women who prepare the food are known as “le mamme di San Vito.” This film tells their story in the context of immigration history as well as the current demand for childcare services in Bràs.
