BIOS:
Born and raised in the Far Rockaway and Jamaica sections of Queens, True is no stranger to the struggle that hides behind the facade of well kept lawns and pretty houses. Tired of the ups and downs of family life, True hit the streets intent on making a name for herself. After dealing with too much death, she ultimately realized her greatest gift was her ability to give eternal life to those who lacked a voice through her poetry. In 2005 she self-published her first book of poems entitled "Where Do I Begin?" She has performed in some of NYC's historic poetry venues, including the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe and The Bowery Poetry Club, as well as the Roseland Ballroom. A founding member (and the only woman) of the popular spoken word poetry group El Grito de Poetas, True's mission is to tell the world the stories of the desolate and unwanted, no matter how vivid and full of pain, so that they will never be forgotten. Osagyefo is a dynamic Jamaican-born poet who never gives straight answers because he believes there are no straight answers in life. His words are filled with sound and power, the raw creative energy of the universe, as he "spits fiery rhymes,” Billboard once wrote of him. In other words, you don't just hear Osagyefo, you feel him. He has performed all over the world, from Africa to Jamaica, from Switzerland to England, and is the author of Psalms of Osagyefo…Chanting down Babylon. He was awarded the Zoo Award in 2002 for the best overall performer/reading for by the Farrago poetry society in London and currently resides in Brooklyn.
