Samalita is a fifth generation Californian of Spanish, Mexican and European descent. Born in the Los Angeles area and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, her ancestors traveled north from Monterrey, Mexico in 1775, settling in a hacienda which still stands in Fremont, California. Samalita's of California, a boutique restaurant in New York's Upper East Side, opened in 1993 to share Sam's special Cal/Mex family recipes and drinks with her New York friends. In 2007 "Sam", as she is known to her friends, opened a new neighborhood restaurant called Samalita's Sunflower Restaurant to serve fresh and healthy California Cuisine. Her Custom Guacamole, Fresh Fruit Margaritas and Sizzling Fajitas are her signature specials. With the "Golden State's" Spanish/Mexican influence form the South, exotic Asian and Italian influences from the North, plus farm-styled cooking from Europe, this food utilizes fresh produce, fruits and nuts native to California. With fresh seafood from the coast, wonderful wines from the vineyards, Samalita's Sunflower Restaurant gives New York a glorious taste of this truly unique California Cuisine.
