Le Bateau Ivre, New York City's first true French wine bar, raw bar and grill opened on Manhattan's East Side in January 1999. Named after a poem by a 19th century Frenchman, Arthur Rimbaud, Le Bateau Ivre offers more than 250 varieties of the finest French wines - by the glass and the bottle. Authentic bistro cuisine includes raw and grilled seafood, meats and tartines.
Created to revive the traditional French bistro a vins, and open from 8am until 4am daily, Le Bateau Ivre serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A traditional breakfast and an array of light luncheon specials paired with wines by the glass form part of the daily menu. Classic French breakfast is also served daily.
The grill features at least five sumptuous items everyday, including steaks, lamb chops, chicken lobster and a fish of the day. All are served with handout French fries and a salad. Lunch and dinner include a daily selection of pates and cheeses. Patrons can also savor/enjoy Le Bateau Ivre's original tartines - open-faced slices of Poilane-style country bread with a variety of different toppings, including pate, steak tartare and croque monsieur to brandade (codfish and mashed potatos).
With extraordinary attention to detail, high level of service, and the casual yet refined ambiance, Le Bateau Ivre is designed to make you feel as if you have been transported to an intimate bistro a vins in Paris along the romantic River Seine.
