The University Museums encompasses the University's nationally renowned mineralogical collection that originated with a 1963 gift of the collection of Ir n e DuPont, and has grown through the donations of benefactors and friends. In 2009, the Mineralogical Museum in Penny Hall reopened with cases the incorporate fiber optic lighting to showcase the natural beauty of these specimens. The display is arranged by region or to explore specific mineralogical themes, such as gems and carving. Changing installations present recent acquisitions and private collections.
