Uncle George's Greek Tavern is the staple of Greek food in New York City. Patrons are attracted here, not by advertisement, rather by word of mouth. We are posting this web site, so that people all over the world can find out more about Uncle George's before they visit. Uncle George's strives to meet the best standards in food service quality, taste and value. We aim to please, and satisfy the appetite. We like to hear positive comments, and have our customers advertise by spreading the word to others. We also want to hear any negative criticism in order to find out what pleases our customers, and to try to improve on our service and products. Uncle George's was founded by, who else, Uncle George, circa 1978. It was an overnight success, due to his personality and charisma. His popularity grew, as he met more and more people, all of whom he impressed with his ability to relate to everyone, in all walks of life. The food of course was nothing less than excellent and fully authentic, thanks to George's wife, Maria. To this date, although Uncle George has passed away, the high standards of his captainship are still strictly followed. Uncle George's buys their supplies from reliable sources, to insure best quality, and freshness.See our write-ups in the Zagat restaurant guide, as well as Cheap Eats. Numerous articles have appeared in the New York Times, New York Post, Daily News, Newsday, Astoria Gazette, as well as film clips on CNN Burt Wolf cooking show, among others. The employees of Uncle George's are not only proficient at their work, but also possess the unique feeling of unity; a family restaurant, not only for the patrons, but also within itself.
