Teen Dating Abuse

Join your colleagues at this energizing workshop, which is approved for 5.5 Social Work and Nursing Credits.
 
(Space is limited and pre-registration is required.   Registration includes a light breakfast and lunch.)
 
Be part of a discussion to identify and define the four types of abuse in teen dating relationships.  Participants will identify warning signs for victims and important threats to their control.  Maintaining proper documentation and key skills when talking with abusers will also be discussed .
A study on teen dating abuse conducted by Teenage Research Unlimited indicates that one in three teenagers in the U.S. have a friend or peer who has been hit, punched, kicked, slapped, choked or physically hurt by their partner.
At the local level, APFC conducted surveys of 1,003 high school girls in Union County, NJ in 2009 and found startling results that support critical learning during the program .   
(This session is part of the  Intimate Partner Violence Advocate (IPVA) Certification Program - a five-part series that is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW) Up to 22 CEU's can be earned by attaining this certification)
 
  After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
Understand the dynamics of teen dating violence  Recognize the warning signs that indicate a teen may be a victim or an abuser
Effectively approach a teen (victim or abuser) to provide intervention
Develop safety plans, and implement prevention and awareness strategies
Identify resource and referral information for support
Who should attend?
School administrators, faculty, staff, day-care staff, childcare workers, social workers, nurses and anyone working in family services .
